WHAT'S NEW IN WPTOOLS VERSION 5.1?
Two changes are common to several programs. They are described here
and briefly referred to in the discussion of individual programs.
(a) Trapping of encrypted files. Rather than crashing
when a password protected WP5 document is encountered,
the programs now gracefully skip over them.
(b) Read-only input files are now less likely to
cause problems.
COMMENTS 2.0 -- (a) Allows wildcard input specification.
(b) Encryption and read-only fixes.
DISKFONT 2.2 -- Read-only fix.
ENDFOOT 1.3 -- (a) Better test for same input and output file, and
better error message.
(b) Encryption and read-only fixes.
FIXPRE 4.4 -- (a) Optionally deletes document summaries.
(b) Optionally deletes graphics.
(c) Allows combining of single letter options on
command line.
(d) Encryption fix.
(e) Reduced likelihood of crashing when treewalking
through complex directory structures with large numbers
of files, and better error messages when problems do
arise.
(f) Improved error handling. When problems arise,
input file is now left intact. This reduces the
danger in using the -K option.
(g) Corrects improper treatment of document files
with prefixes below minimum size (which may mean only
supplemental dictionary files).
FONTFILE 3.2 -- Read-only fix.
FONTLIST 4.1 -- (a) Encryption and read-only fixes.
(b) Misleading error message fixed.
LISTMACS 3.1 -- (a) Optional sorting by file extension.
(b) Fix failure to list Ctrl-K key.
(c) Read-only fix.
(d) Handles extended characters in ascii output.
MAKETABS 2.2 -- Handles high ascii characters in input file.
MASTER 1.1 -- (a) Allows combining of single letter options on
command line.
(b) Encryption and read-only fixes.
(c) Fix bug in handling large numbers of files.
MERGESUM 3.3 -- (a) Fixed bug in using 5.1 format output with 5.0
document summaries.
(b) Encryption fix (output notes that file is
protected).
(c) New option uses top of document for
abstract/comment field if summary exists but that
field is blank.
(d) New option replaces abstract/comment field by top
of document.
(e) New option processes only files with specified
date or later.
(f) Allows combining single letter options on command
line.
(g) Minor bug fixes in treewalking, use of top of
document and elsewhere.
PRINTIT 2.1 -- (a) Increased limit on size of offset specified on
command line.
(b) Accepts / as well as - as command line switch.
STYLIST 3.1 -- (a) Optional sorting by file extension.
(b) Encryption and read-only fixes.
STYLEUSE 1.2 -- (a) Allows combining of single letter options on
command line.
(b) Encryption fix.
(c) Reduced likelihood of crashing when treewalking
through complex directory structures with large
numbers of files, and better error messages when
problems do arise.
(d) Improved error handling. When problems arise,
input file is now left intact. This reduces the
danger in using the -K option.
(e) Fixed bugs in removing style codes from body of
document where styles are in substructures, such as
headers, text boxes, etc.
TARGETS 2.2 -- Encryption and read-only fixes.
WHATPTRS 4.1 -- (a) Read-only fix.
(b) Allows combining S and L options (-SL).
WPSNOOP 7.1 -- (a) Better information on files for WPCorp products
other than WordPerfect.
(b) Encryption and read-only fixes.
WP5LOOK 4.0 -- This program has been substantially rewritten. Many
of the changes will not be obvious to users. The
following changes are more obvious.
(a) Optionally does not reformat paragraphs to fit
screen width, instead permitting lines of over 250
characters, with the screen manually scrolled
horizontally to permit viewing.
(b) Invoking program without filespec on command line
produces prompt for filespec, optional pick list if
filespec has wildcards. Help now available through
command line parameter rather than absence of filespec
on command line.
(c) /M command line parameter to force mono display,
thus overriding default color selection.
(d) /W command line parameter, same function as W
key.
(e) Optional configuration file for command line
parameters.
(f) Additional filespec may be inserted while
processing other filespecs. Inserted filespec is
processed before pending filespecs.
(g) Bug involving reported page numbers fixed.
(h) Encrypted and read-only fixes.
(i) Bug that sometimes resulted in displaying, as the
first thing in a file, a word from the previous file.
(j) Now displays non-WP5 files, using a different
display and command structure.
(k) /P command line parameter to force use of pick
lists, P command to invoke pick lists of /P not used.
